Clientbook messaging is SMS and MMS based, which means messages are delivered as standard text messages to your customers' phones. Because of this, embedded hyperlinks are not supported. You cannot create "click here" style links or hide a URL behind custom display text the way you might in an email or on a webpage.
Why embedded links are not available
This is a limitation of SMS and MMS messaging (sending text messages to phones) in general, not something specific to Clientbook. Standard text messages only support plain text. Unlike email or web pages, there is no way to format words as clickable hyperlinks in an SMS. This applies to individual messages, mass messages, auto messages, and message templates.
What you can do instead
Even though embedded links are not available, you can still share URLs with your customers. When you paste or type a full URL directly into a message, most smartphones will automatically make it tappable for the recipient. The customer simply taps the link and it opens in their phone's browser.
For example, if you type a message like this:
"Hi Sarah, here's the collection I put together for you: https://www.clbk.app/12345678/1234567 Let me know what you think!"
The URL in the message will appear as a tappable link on Sarah's phone, even though it displays as the full web address rather than hidden behind a word or phrase.
Tips for sharing links in messages
- Use the full URL. Always include the complete web address starting with https:// so the recipient's phone recognizes it as a link.
- Keep it clean. Place the URL on its own line or with a clear space before and after it so it is easy to find in the message.
- Use Clientbook's built-in link features. When you send a collection or a payment request, Clientbook automatically generates a short link and inserts it into the message for you.
- Consider a URL shortener for long links. If you need to share a URL that is not generated by Clientbook (for example, a link to your store website or a specific product page), you can use a free URL shortening service to make it more compact before pasting it into your message.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I add a "click here" link in a Clientbook message?
No. SMS messaging does not support embedded hyperlinks. You can include a full URL in your message and it will be tappable on the recipient's phone, but you cannot hide the URL behind display text like "click here."
Does this apply to mass messages too?
Yes. The same limitation applies to all message types in Clientbook, including individual messages, mass messages, auto messages, and message templates. All of these are delivered as SMS or MMS.
Can I include a link to my store's website in a text message?
Absolutely. Just paste the full URL (for example, https://www.yourstore.com) directly into the message. The customer's phone will recognize it as a tappable link.
What about links Clientbook generates, like payment links or collection links?
Clientbook automatically creates short links when you send payment requests or product collections. These links are inserted into the message as plain-text URLs and will be tappable for your customers.
